These photographs were
taken at the 1951 Festival of Britain exhibition held in London using a
No.2 Brownie. The one at right seems surprisingly crisp, but these simple
cameras often produced good results. The principle problem to overcome being
camera shake caused by releasing the shutter combined with a rather long shutter speed in
the order of 1/25sec. Steadying the camera against some immovable object
was a common method to avoid this. Both these pictures were supplied by
Gerald Ponting. Another Kodak camera recorded a near identical scene at
Tower Bridge exactly 50 years later. The
