Shown here as it was donated to the collection. This forms part of the initial survey as I make a plan to tidy it up. The policy with all cameras is to restore functionality if possible, conserve evidence of use and reverse neglect. This camera is actually fully functional, the shutter is still working well and the bellows are still soft and light tight. There is little evidence of use, aside from some paint rubbing from a few rolls of film that have passed through it. There is considerable neglect unfortunately, at some point it's been stored in damp conditions and the plating is badly pitted and the shutter casing corroded. The Koilos shutter did have some rather attractive patterning etched into the casing, now largely obscured. This will be a challenge to replicate but I am looking forward to devising a repair scheme for that. The camera was probably closed up for a long time with the lensboard rise left in a high position, this has wrecked the pleats, this will entail separating the bellows into component parts. The card stiffeners will likely need replacing but hopefully the liner can be cleaned (it's filthy) and used again. It will probably be quite frail, so if it can't be saved I do have a small supply of the appropriate fine weave linen, but I'd rather put the original back. Likewise the card stiffeners on the top and bottom of the bellows look okay from the outside so these too may be re used. It will be a long job over winter 2022 into 2023.
